The number one reason is that they feel that because they have managed to do what trillions upon trillions of humans have done that they are somehow special. Even more irritating is the idea that because God chose not to kill them at a younger age, that they should be treated with profound respect. Crap...I'll finish this in a few minutes.... Ah....As I was saying... The number one reason is that they feel that because they have managed to do what trillions upon trillions of humans have done that they are somehow special. Even more irritating is the idea that because God chose not to kill them at a younger age, that they should be treated with profound respect. Strangely, I think this has more to do with God than with them, so I'm less likely to treat them with such respect. The whole age theory trickles over to another area: wisdom. Yes, you are old. Yes, this means you should have, by now, dodged a lot of cars, eighteen wheelers and maybe even a few trains. No, this does not mean you have learned anything about those cars, eighteen wheelers or trains. Heck, you may not have even learned anything about dodging. What does this say? Age provides an opportunity to learn; age does not grant learning. The wisdom theory lends them this arrogance, and the arrogance can be seen in a number of ways. "You'll understand when you are older" is one of the most recognizable ways. Another annoying way is that they are older and therefore, you will see that they are right when you are older. That is almost enough to make me pray for them to live and see that I still don't think that they are right. But the arrogance pops up in other, physical ways. Like driving. The old guy who does 35 in a 55 zone will do 85 in that 55 zone if you try to pass him. Why do they get in the fast lane? I've never understood that. You can tell if it's an old person, though, just by noting the type of vehicle. Is it a luxury vehicle? Yep, it's an old guy. In stores they frequently ask: "Are you in line?" like they haven't been trying move ahead of you for the last 5 minutes. If you are cashier, heck if you look like a cashier, and you are actually removing a cash drawer from the register they will ignore that and they will ignore the "Register Closed" sign, and the tons of junk they have to move to begin unloading their buggie, and they will begin unloading their buggie. Tell them that you are closed, and suddenly they will become offended- as if it is your fault that they are self-centered idiots who thought that their age was a free pass to getting whatever they want. Seriously. If a child were to act in the manner that they act, the kid would get beat everyday and would live in a corner. But because old people aren't dead, they are smiled at and everyone acts as if this behavior is good. People will even say, "Well, they are getting on up there." Or, "They really don't realize just how rude they are being." Neither does the 5-year old child. |
